Fantastic game, subpar business model
Ive had this game on my ipod for years. Its addictive, fun in short bursts, flashy, controls well, and is a wonderful score chaser. However, as good as the game is, it has one glaring issue that should be addressed to keep the game fresh. That issue is the in-app purchases. Your basic ship is free, but each of the other 7 ships costs $1 to unlock. Not too long ago, a store was added to the app that added a new wrinkle to the formula: coins drop as you destroy enemy ships, and you use those coins for buffs on your next run. None of the ships are unlockable with these coins. Why? I say this as an open letter to the devs: you can keep the in-app purchases in place for those who wants the ships and coins faster, but why not let the rest of us play to earn those ships? It would give us goals and a reason to pour more time into this wonderful game. You can even keep the timed demos to try out ships before we unlock them. Just let us earn them with our skills instead of our wallets.
